I’ll be okay. I’ll hold on.
Do what you can, but please don’t leave me alone again.”
Amy has been hospitalised for the last 10 months. Today I´m reminded of the promise I made to her. I promise her we would do whatever it took to save her life, that we would search for a way for her to walk again, and if there wasn´t any we would CREATE ONE…
She had been seen crawling about the countryside for days, but nobody tried to help her.
I will never forget her face when we opened the carrier. It was if she was seeing the world for the first time. God knows where she came from, what had been done to her… it’s not very often that you see something as broken as she was.
Her two front legs had open fractures. The bone was necrotic, the tendons had been destroyed by infection.
The condition of her legs made it quite clear… this would be the hardest rescue of them all.
That was 10 months ago… For that apparent eternity we have fought against the infection that was eating her bones away… During this time we tried everything, but the infection appeared to have won this battle… Little by little, the bone in her two legs was dissolving…
But things started changing two months ago when, in a desperate attempt to change her left leg we designed and implanted a POROUS TITANIUM MATRIX especially designed for Amy, over which we will added both autologous and synthetic bone graft.
In the surgery, we cut out 10 centimetres of dead, gangrened bone, and replaced it with this matrix… This strategy worked, and THE MATRIX TRANSFORMED ITSELF INTO BONE MATTER.
10 MONTHS AGO WE PROMISED AMY THAT WE WOULD NEVER GIVE UP ON HER…. The mission is nearly accomplished…
THIS IS OUR CHANCE TO MAKE A TRUE DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF BEAUTIFUL AMY … AFTER THIS IS OVER WE WILL BE ABLE TO SAY… YES!! WE DID IT!!!
