Hi there! This is Archie. To say the truth, I adore my breed not only because we are intelligent, active and just cute but also because Jack Russell Terrier history is very interesting.
So, the last article was dedicated to the Jack Russell Terrier character. If you missed it, go here and find out more about me! And now, as I promised, I will tell you interesting facts from the breed’s history.
Jack Russell Terrier is a hunting breed of dogs with the origin in the United Kingdom. Through the ages, these observant animals have been hunting foxes. The dog had to get into the hole and chase the victim or pull it out during the fight. The terrier had to be small to penetrate into the hole and be able to move freely in it. So initially, the dogs of my breed were used as northerly hunters and even rat-catchers!
Our courage, endurance and ability to be extremely energetic allowed us to spent hours hunting other animals. Can you believe it? In addition, undemanding Jack Russell Terriers are easy to train.
Moreover, we are the perfect companions and friends for our owner. Natali can prove my words!
Currently, the Jack Russell Terrier is well-known in the UK as a hunting, farm dog and companion. He can have both tough and smooth hair. After World War II, the Jack Russell Terrier landed on the continent. Hiding hunters especially appreciated the strong breed.
In many countries, these dogs live in apartments as ordinary domestic animals — like me! Anyway, my owner constantly trains me in order to develop brave skills. Speaking about my own hunting feelings, sometimes I notice it. For example, yesterday I saw a rat in the wood and I started chasing it! Usually, I do not aggressive towards other animals but this time something drove me crazy! I suppose, that the blood of my hunting ancestors inside me means a lot… How do you think?
Thank you a lot for reading this article! I hope you enjoyed it. If you have got a Jack Russell Terrier too, please write me if he/she has familiar hunting behavior. Bye!
