The Shangrala website posted pictures of an incredible elephant rescue. It will leave you breathless and shouting for joy! The conservation workers from the South Luangwa Conservation Society usually lets nature be, but when they saw a mother elephant and her baby in a hopeless situation they jumped in to help!
A herd of elephants was trying to help a mother and her calf after they had gotten stuck in some mud in a lagoon.
The mud dried quickly, and there wasn’t much time for the rescuers to work. The elephants needed immediate help.
After slipping a rope under the baby, they were able to pull her free.
But the baby wanted to stay with her momma, and she got stuck again.
The calf was crying out for its mother. The mother seemed to have all but given up. The baby was nearly free again but headed back to her mother.
The team tried everything (yelling and waving) to keep the calf from getting stuck – again.
The third attempt…
And the baby is free!
The herd cries out, and she runs to them!
Now the team turns to the mother, who is exhausted.
They knew that they were not going to be able to pull her out without the help of a tractor.
Slowly, the mother elephant emerged from the mud and began calling out to her baby.
Mom is now free!
She quickly heads to the herd and is reunited with her baby!
What an awesome story! So glad that everyone was free and safe! Share away, people!
